Today’s Scripture and a Snapshot verse is Luke 17:19, taken from the story of Jesus cleansing the ten lepers.
I invite you to join me on Instagram using #scriptureandasnapshot and post your own scripture and snapshots along with me.
The Application Bible says this:
Luke 17: 11-14 – The lepers werre required to try to stay apart from other people and to announce their presence if they had to come near. If a leper thought his leprosy had gone away, he was supposed to present himself to a priest who could declare him clean (Leviticus 14). Jesus sent the ten lepers to the priest before they were healed…and they went! They were responding in faith, and Jesus healed them on the way. Is your trust in God so strong that you act on what he says even before you see evidence that it will work?
Luke 17:16 – Jesus healed all the lepers but only one returned to thank him. It is possible to receive God’s great gifts with an ungrateful spirit….nine of the lepers did so. Only the one, however, learned that his faith had played a role in his healing. God does not demand that we thank him, but he is pleased when we do so, and he uses our responsiveness to teach us more about himself.
Not only was this man a leper, he was also a Samaritan….a race despised by the Jews as idolatrous half-breeds. Luke is pointing out that God’s grace is for everybody!
I have to wonder how I would react if I’d done something so wonderful as this and nobody thanked me. What about you?
Today’s reading was a great reminder of how loving our God is……..how forgiving…….how precious He is…….what a wonderful teacher we have in our Father!
I hope you enjoyed today’s verse, and until next time,
Have a Blessed Sunday!!
