I hadn’t been to the Coke Ovens in quite awhile and I have to say that while walking there a few days ago, I was so saddened at the current condition of the ovens themselves!! You’ll see here in a bit.
Shoes laced up and ready! Let’s begin!
We ran into some Fungi. Pretty, isn’t it? (We=myself and Raider, my furbaby. I should’ve taken a pic of her, huh?)
We ran into some MORE Fungi!
We crossed over this wooden bridge with some FALLen leaves.
We came upon this pretty tiny yellow flowered plant. I will attempt to identify it.
And NOW……some of the Coke Ovens.
This FIRST shot is an older photo because I want to show you what they USED to look like. So sad.
Here they are now. This was taken at a different angle and just up from the Ovens in the above photo.
Supposedly, there is a “Coke Oven Advisory Commission” that meets every month. I think I’ll go and see what they have to say about the condition of the Ovens. It’s a real shame to see this historic site get ruined.
I realize that sometimes nature reclaims areas and that may be what is happening here but I think at least a few of these Bee Hive Ovens should be restored and maintained. There was a creek that ran between 2 rows of Ovens and the creek is now bone dry. I’m not sure what happened to the water but maybe I can get some answers at the meeting. At any rate, it sure appears that the eco system of this once beautiful and historic site has been altered.
Now, on with the tour.
Another cute little yellow flowered plant that I want to identify.
And finally, some gorgeous Honeysuckle passed on our way back home.
If I gain any information on the Coke Ovens and their condition, I’ll post about it. I truly hate to see them this way.
Thank you so much for walking along with me and I’ll be back soon to post another walk. I have several different routes that I can take. See you then!
Hugs and Have A Creative Day!
P.S. If you take your camera with you on your own walks, I’d love to hear about it or see your images. Just leave me a comment or a link to your images.
