Today is Friday Finds with Kim Klassen. I didn’t actually find anything new, or discover anything new, but I DID uncover this precious vintage memory.
This little old spoon rest brings images to mind from my childhood. It is pottery, although I can’t find any identifying marks on it. Probably not an expensive piece nor a collector’s dream…….but it’s part of my past, part of my Mother and the house I grew up in. I can see my Mother at the stove (sure wish I had that stove today) placing a spoon that she’d just stirred a pot of vegetable soup with into this spoon rest.
Quite honestly, I’m surprised that it’s still in one piece after so many many years of use. I had actually put it away so it wouldn’t get broken. I cleaned out my spice cupboard the other day and there it was…….tucked safely back in the corner.
I’m still deciding whether or not to use it OR keep it in with my other glassware in a safe place. I tend to use my vintage dishes from time to time. My Aunt told me once to “use these things and enjoy them”. I have begun doing that with some things but for now, I think I’ll tuck this away again but where I can see it and enjoy it and walk through time with it……from time to time.
I only did a basic lightroom edit on this image to preserve the color of the spoon rest.
I hope you enjoyed a few memories with me from my past today.
Do you photography special items that bring back memories from your childhood? I’d love to hear or better yet, see them in artful images!
Thanks for stopping by and here’s wishing you a WONDERFUL weekend!!
