I was strolling through the yard the other day and noticed this lichen on the Lilac tree. That’s probably not a good thing for the tree, but it is yet another intricate beauty of nature in a photographer’s eyes.
I immediately thought of my macro lens and tripod and went to work.
I snipped a small black-eyed susan to add to the image to give the viewer an idea of the size of the lichen.
And of course I couldn’t resist just focusing in on the flower for my first shot. I edited this image in Lightroom, while using the radial filter was able to highlight the flower and darkening the outer edges of it.
Then I moved around a bit to capture a few more. I’m not overly happy with the focus on these images and will be experimenting more with the lens but I just thought it was too pretty not to share.
I want to note that I also brought these last three images into “Topaz Detail” from Lightroom to add a bit more interest to them. If you’ve never tried the Topaz products, I would recommend at least downloading a free trial to play with. You’ll be amazed at what all they can do with the many presets that come loaded in each module, PLUS you have manual control over each one to tweak them to your liking.
FYI: Topaz Adjust is 50% OFF with coupon code AUGADJUST until the end of this month……great module. I have this one too!
Hope you enjoyed a bit of macro this week and I HOPE you’re out there capturing your own images!
Hugs,
Cheryl
I have a love/hate relationship with that lichen. I really think it looks neat (like a whole lot of moths alighting on the tree) but it’s also kinda creepy, you know? But this is neat! I like the relationship with the flower.
The opening flower is gorgeous too! I haven’t really used the radial filter all that much. I should change that. : )
