Have you ever wanted a day to just do something for yourself? Something you’ve been wanting to do for a long time but time never seemed to be available? And so you put off yet again what you’ve been longing to do.
Not today! No way, not today! I have been wanting to make use of the Calendula Oil that I made a month ago. So today, I did it! I went straight to the kitchen, gathered my supplies and did it! And I didn’t even realize how easy and fast it was going to be! I made Calendula Salve. It is good for skin rashes, scrapes and scratches, and even diaper rash. I need to mention too how yummy it feels when putting it on your skin.
I did forget to put the beeswax in the photo……rats!! But anyway, I heated 1 cup of my calendula oil that I’d already made over very low heat. While that was happening (and it took just a couple minutes), I grated a quarter cup of the beeswax. All but a tablespoon went into the warm (not hot) calendula oil and then I put a spoonful in the freezer for 1-2 minutes just to see how it would set up. It seemed a tad too soft, so I added the rest of the beeswax plus grated a couple more tablespoons and added that too (I didn’t want a runny salve.), along with about 10-12 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and a pinch or two of the Tumeric Root Powder for coloring. It was then poured into the 2 baby food jars that I’d saved and one tin.
Gosh I just love playing with these organic, earthy herbs.
My almost-2-year-old grandson was here today and it just happens that he has a rash on his back so…………….yep! Ma put some of the calendula salve on his rash, gave a jar to my daughter so she can use it 3-4 times a day and we’ll see what happens. The rash doesn’t seem to be bothering him in the least, it’s a dry rash, nothing open or weepy, so we’ll see what happens within a few days and if need be, she’ll take him to the doctor.
That’s the important thing about using herbs. I’d say most of the time, they can be healing and helpful but in no way should replace your family doctor for serious matters! And I indeed have a lot more to learn but am enjoying my journey with herbs!!
Have you done any studying or making of things with herbs? Do you cook with herbs? I’d love for you to tell me about your experiences with them in the comments below.
Thanks so much for coming by and stay tuned……I’ve ordered more supplies and will be sharing more real soon!
Have a wonderful day!!
