Here’s the Introduction from the PDF “Frugal Still Life Phototrapher”.
“I don’t know about you, but I’m not financially “fit” to have the biggest and best when it comes to the extras like backdrops and props for my photography. Why spend tons of money on commercial backgrounds when you can create them yourself using items around your home or can purchase for just a few dollars? So I decided to put together this little e-book and share the things I’ve come up with to use as backdrops and props. Most I’ve found right in my home or I’ve purchased inexpensive items at WalMart, garage sales, and have even found items in my yard! Read on to see how I’ve begun compiling a collection of backgrounds, props and accessories.”
What else is covered in the PDF?
- Equipment List
- Setting up the Shot (includes images)
- Making the Shot (includes images)

Here’s what students are saying about the Workshop:
What a difference a texture makes. I am really enjoying Cheryl’s Frugal Still Life Photography class. Not only are we learning how to use the things we already have in our house to take better pictures, we are encouraged to use different textures to make our images dynamic. Thanks for another great class Cheryl. ~ Mary D.
I enjoyed this workshop tremendously and learned some wonderful techniques for choosing and grouping items for still life photos as well as how to set up for the photo shoots and pay attention to lighting. It was easy to find things around the house to complete each week’s lessons, but it was still challenging in a way that kept it interesting and fun each week. I now have a much better idea of how to create beautiful still life images. ~ Melissa G.
I’ve enjoyed greatly trying to create Still Life Photography in style with the Great Dutch Masters. Cherishing the frugal principles – using items from your home – has brought me down the memory lane … Going through the moments with the loved ones, that no longer are among us. ~ Nina
