DSLR Firmware Updates

September 16, 2014 by CherylMC 11 Comments

I started this post simply to talk about updating the firmware version on your DSLR. I wanted to have an image of my camera for the article……ended up with this one and decided to use it for Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday.  I also have a little gift for you today…..if you like brushes! (download at bottom of post).

Read more about updating your firmware version on your DSLR below.

First – the image

Here is my original with a basic Lightroom edit. The paper underneath the camera is a 12×12 sheet of scrapbook paper.

Here is my result after adding a layer of Kim’s kk-follow texture and experimenting with various blend modes. I applied a linear light blend mode and reduced the opacity to 96%. The image was rather light, so I duplicated the photo layer and moved it above the texture layer and applied a color burn blend mode and reduced the opacity to 63%. It’s very different but I thought it was rather cool, thus my decision to make it my link up with Texture Tuesday today.

You never know what surprises you may come up with just by taking a few minutes to experiment when using textures and blend modes.

NOW……on to updating that firmware version.

I always just thought that a firmware update would be way too technical for me, but I bit the bullet and did it! To my surprise, it was actually quite easy.

You can “google” your make of camera (in my case Nikdon D90) + firmware update and if your particular camera has an update available, you’ll find it right away.

I had 2 updates available for my camera and the entire process took maybe 20 minutes. It may be something you might want to do if you haven’t done so already. And before you begin, be sure to have a fully charged battery.

That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed the post.

Hugs and Have A Creative Day,

Cheryl

P.S. – As an after-thought, I decided to make a couple brushes from my textured image and you can download them simply by clicking on the preview below. Enjoy!!

I like your edit-very creative. I tried updating my firmware but it was not successful and I have no idea why. Haven’t tried it since, but probably need to give it another try.

Cheryl, Very cool edit of your camera – would make a great greeting card or wall art – kind of a hip vibe. And, wow, thanks for the reminder . . . I haven’t checked for a firmware update for my camera in awhile, so I will today. I’m usually so technologically-challenged, but I think I can handle the firmware update. Great post!

Very creative edit! I like the yellow. Firmware update? I have never done this, really. I guess I need to google my camera and give it a try. Thank you for the information.

Wonderful. Yes, it is fun to experiment with textures and blend modes. I was surprised to see your brushes made from your camera images. I am preparing a challenge for next week on Jessica Sprague. One of the criteria is to make their own brush from an image. Yours are great.
