I have delayed photographing this hornet nest. The longer I delayed, the bigger it got. It’s now every bit the size of a basketball. By comparing the leaves to it, you can get a sense of the size as well.
We’re going to have to get it down because it’s hanging just about 2 feet off the ground and needless to say, it poses a real threat when mowing.
I guess I was lucky as they didn’t appear to feel threatened by me……..but then again, why should they? I was the one that felt threatened! ROFL At any rate, the shoot went off very well.
I find it truly amazing how these hornets build this nest. If you look at the entry hole, you can actually see the layers of paper thin material they’ve created. It’s actually a beautiful piece of art with varied colors of grays and browns.
Hubby thinks I’m crazy but I’d LOVE to keep this nest in tact! Minus the bees, of course.
