I’d like to start today’s post with a quote.
This quote fits my thinking today as I began this shoot playing with light and shadows for The Studio | Online. I was unsure of myself as I don’t normally shoot with so much shadow. I’m still unsure whether or not I really like the end result……not because it’s not a great idea or practice…..but because of the “fear” that maybe it’s not good enough or maybe no one will like my Cast Iron and Shadow images.
I decided NOT to procrastinate and take that risk of failure. It is NOT a lost opportunity now and maybe it could be better…….but I took the risk. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Not everyone likes the same things…..and how thankful I am for that……..otherwise, it would be a very dull world to live in.
I just wanted to say to NOT be in fear about your art……..it’s YOURS!
Will I practice this technique again?! Absolutely! It’s a learning experience and I welcome it!
My first image, I shot in landscape format, processed in Lightroom using Kim’s “moody-ish” preset to enhance the shadows. I feel like this image may have a slight green cast to it on the flower pot itself and I could’ve/should’ve caught that upon processing but I didn’t. Oh well…….lesson learned!
And then I cropped another image to this square format that I love. I can surely see an instagram album coming later in the year with 4×4 prints.
Same processing as above, but a bit darker. I hung a black shower curtain on the right side of my set-up and added a cloth over the window (on the left) to soften the light.
Do you find at times that you let fear cause you to procrastinate…..let it stop you from moving forward? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m headed to the kitchen today to bake some furbaby treats and homemade biscuits for us people. If I can find some decent light in my kitchen, I’ll take a few photos of the process!
Hugs and Have An Artistic Day!!
