If you’ve read enough of my posts and seen my images of any Homer Laughlin glassware that I have, you already know how much I adore Homer Laughlin.
This special day was no exception and my story needs to be told. It’s about a special Homer Laughlin plate….
A dear friend of mine and myself went to my antique booth a couple weeks ago. We added some new things, took some out, rearranged, etc. etc. When we finished, my friend wanted to treat me to lunch…..you know…..girl time. We’d never been to this particular restaurant…Tenos…and wanted to try it out. It was only a block or two away from the antique booth.
It’s not a fancy expensive restaurant…..family dining, and it’s located in the small hometown of East Palestine but there were quite a few groups of people there having lunch. We ordered our lunch and lo and behold, it was served on Homer Laughlin dinner plates!! I recognized it right off. I mentioned it to my friend and she held up her plate so I could look at the bottom and sure enough……Homer Laughlin!
As we finished up our lunch, the thought occurred to me…….why not just ask if I could purchase one of their plates. I already had 3 coffee mugs (the same color), a tea cup, and a creamer that I’d found while antiquing. All they can say is yes or no, right? So I asked if I could purchase the plate after explaining to the waitress about my collection. The waitress said she’d have to ask the owner and went off to do so. When she came back….she was carrying a dinner plate (a clean one, the same color that I’d eaten off of) and said “Here you go, she said to tell you Merry Christmas”…….and handed me the plate.
Are you kidding me??? I was beside myself! I know, I know……it’s ONLY a plate, but hey! It’s Homer Laughlin and matched perfectly my other pieces at home!
I decided to photograph ALL the pieces, along with their menu….threw in a tea towel and am going to make her a thank you card out of this image. Actually I think the idea of the photo and thank you card were my friend’s idea. My brain doesn’t always function as it should, so thank you my friend! You know who you are!
And here it is….
Isn’t it a lovely set? I KNOW there’s a small soup bowl to match out there SOMEWHERE calling my name and if I look long and hard enough, I’ll find it one day.
I hope you enjoyed my story and it just goes to show you that there ARE people in this world that are thoughtful and giving. Bless you Tina!!!
Until next time…..Hugs and Have A Creative Day!!
